Travel to Egmont

There are 3 ways we would recommend you use to get to Egmont & the West Coast Wilderness Lodge

Ferry - with car

  • In the summer, you must make a ferry reservation via BC ferries if you plan to travel by car. We recommend reserving as soon as possible. There will be available parking at the Lodge.

    Total Travel Time: ~3.5 Hours

The trip from Vancouver to the village of Egmont on the Sunshine Coast is a simple, scenic route.

Drive your car to the ferry terminal in West Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay). The crossing from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale is a quick 40 minutes and passes through Howe Sound, one of B.C.’s famous fjords.

Your ferry ride ends in the town of Gibsons, which boasts a lively seaside harbour. From here, it is an hour-and-a-half drive to our resort.

Sechelt, a half hour from Gibsons, has some excellent lunchtime restaurants and artisan shops. Sechelt means “land between two waters” and is the isthmus that connects the rest of the Sunshine Coast peninsula to the mainland. An excellent quick stop during your trip is at Sechelt’s Porpoise Bay.

As you continue north, the road passes through quaint Pender Harbour to Egmont. Craggy bluffs with lichen, moss and Arbutus pass by on your right and to your left, the panoramic Strait of Georgia. Ruby Lake is another great stop to catch the afternoon sun on a sandy beach, just before you turn off to the tiny village of Egmont.

Ferry - without car

  • Total Travel Time: ~3.5 Hours

If you plan to walk onto the ferry you do not need to make a reservation, just plan to arrive at least 45 min prior to your sailing so you can buy tickets at the terminal, etc.

Catch an uber, taxi, or the 250 bus from Downtown Vancouver to Horseshoe Bay.

We will have a shuttle bus from Gibsons (Langdale Ferry Terminal) to the WCWL on 4/5 Friday in early afternoon and on 4/7 Sunday mid-morning (we will reach out to you to let you know times if you indicate on your RSVP that you are traveling without a car).

    • Select Standard Vehicle

    • Add number of passengers (this can be updated on the day-of)

    • You can choose to pay all up-front or just a reservation fee $15 CAD

    • Check-out

    • Check your email to make sure it was successful!

We would recommend reserving one on the way back on July 7 as well!

  • Firstly, email Anne & Dan to let us know - maybe we can find someone for you to tag along with!
Secondly, consider the walk-on option, more info here.

Or, you can always drive to the ferry ~2 hours earlier than the sailing you’re targeting - BC Ferries always leaves a certain % of each sailing for drive-up passengers. Just be prepared to wait a sailing or two!

  • If you’d like to attend all events we’d suggest you arrive in Vancouver no later than mid-afternoon on Thursday, July 4th.

We recommend not booking a flight out from YVR any earlier than 4pm on July 7 - it is a long trek to the airport from Egmont BC.

If you do book a flight on the 7th afternoon/evening, we highly recommend making a ferry reservation to leave the sunshine coast on the morning of the 7th if you are driving!

All rooms at the West Coast Wilderness Lodge have been blocked by us for you to book - so to book your room, just ‘check out’ from our page with your desired sleeping scenario and then venmo/etransfer Dan :)
